Some of my graphic illustrations

Final Piece

This is my final outcome for the kinetic typography brief.
The person speaking is an incredible photographer, Sally Mann.
In the interview where this piece was extracted from, she talks about how she embraces the chaotic outcomes of her own work.

I used a lot of fade in and blur effects to make it look like the words were slowly appearing and disappearing, like being developed in a dark room. The background image is one of her photographs magnified then slowly zoomed out throughout the clip, the whole image is revealed at the end. I didn't want to use to many different effects like camera movements and whatnot because I wanted it to create a very calm atmosphere

Using after effects was a bit of a pain but now I'm slowly starting to get the hang of it. I wouldn't mind doing this again

Here's a quick small test run from the interview in which I animated typography using After Effects.

An interview with Sally Mann was the final choice. I chose to use the bit from 24 to 49 seconds.

Trentemoller - Miss you

Such a beautiful tune, remembered this while researching the inspired brief. Although there's no typography in the video the patterns and shapes appear and move around with the melody, watching this full screen in the dark is a very surreal experience.

Inspired

Because I cannot sleep - Jelalludin Rumi

Because I cannot sleep I make music at night. I am troubled by the one whose face has the color of spring flowers. I have neither sleep nor patience, neither a good reputation nor disgrace. A thousand robes of wisdom are gone. All my good manners have moved a thousand miles away. The heart and the mind are left angry with each other. The stars and the moon are envious of each other. Because of this alienation the physical universe is getting tighter and tighter. The moon says, "How long will I remain suspended without a sun?" Without Love's jewel inside of me, let the bazaar of my existence be destroyed stone by stone. O Love, You who have been called by a thousand names, You who know how to pour the wine into the chalice of the body, You who give culture to a thousand cultures, You who are faceless but have a thousand faces, O Love, You who shape the faces of Turks, Europeans, and Zanzibaris, give me a glass from Your bottle, or a handful of being from Your Branch. Remove the cork once more. Then we'll see a thousand chiefs prostrate themselves, and a circle of ecstatic troubadours will play. Then the addict will be freed of craving. and will be resurrected, and stand in awe till Judgement Day. Jelalludin Rumi, the 13th century mystic poet, was truly on of the most passionate and profound poets in history. I chose one of his poems because I believe they elegantly and consistently touch our inner being and inspire us to go beyond our limitations towards the divine.

Zoomorphic Calligraphy

'Zoomorphic Calligraphy established itself only relatively late in Islamic art, when the taboos outlawing religious iconography had lost some of their power. It is an art developed in Ottoman Turkey, India and Qajar Iran. People say, it was known as early as 1458. Most of the below zoomorphic and anthropomorphic optical illusions were done by talented artist, named Hassan Musa from Sudan.'

WordPlay Brief

New term and new brief. For this project we're each given a word and the one I'll be working with is 'Jazz'. We are to produce an A2 poster using both illustration and typography 'to communicate a complex narrative about this word in two dimensions.'

I started off by looking at a few jazz concert posters online, and here are a few that caught my eye:




There's a lot of movement going on in these as well as other jazz posters in general. The typography and colors are very bold and vibrant. I'll keep that in mind when working on my final piece

Comic Sans Brief

Just putting in a few ideas down before I forget

-A giant octopus or squid engulfing the letter, ship style

-Paint the letter onto a brand new rubix cube then fragment the letters apart by moving the squares around

-Have it 'wear' a belt with a ticking bomb. 'Suicide bomber'

-Make miniature letters out of sugar, then dissolve it in tea

- People chasing after it with pitchforks and torches in the woods, trapping it in a hut or whatever in which they set on fire. The idea is people discriminating against 'U'
Frankenstein style? Whatever film that scenario's from. That shitty font's a crime against nature really

-An image of someone screaming. The high pitch shatters the letter into tiny pieces.

-Fast food kills 'U'

Which is what I'm trying to figure out with this manifesto brief. I chose surrealism...still have no idea of how I'm going to present this.

Can someone tell me where I can get one of those?
